2027 Defender 110 vs. Range Rover Sport Comparison with Price, Specs, & Photos
Land Rover builds vehicles with a strong emphasis on off-road ability, luxury, style, and performance. And while every model comes with a blend of these qualities, different models emphasize different qualities in different ways. This is very important to know when trying to choose between the Defender 110 and the Range Rover Sport, as the two are very similar in size, and those other qualities are what really set them apart. We’ll have to take a closer look to see a more specific breakdown of these differences.

From the outset, there doesn’t appear to be a lot that differentiates these two models. The Range Rover Sport comes with a bit more power, but the Defender 110 is set up to tow a bit more, depending on configurations. There is one significant difference here, though, and that is seating. The 110 comes standard with five seats, same as the Range Rover Sport, but unlike the Range Rover Sport, a third row of seats is available as an option. But in case you’re worried that this means there is significantly less space in the Range Rover Sport, don’t be. There is a difference, but it’s minimal: the Sport has 31.9 cubic feet of space behind the second row, while the 110 offers 34 cubic feet.
Defender 110 vs. Range Rover Sport – Performance And Driving Character
Both vehicles come with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine as standard, and both come with the option to upgrade to a 395-horsepower version of this engine. For the Defender 110, this is where the options end, but the Range Rover Sport also offers a PHEV drivetrain and a choice of two different V8 engines. The reason for this difference is the intent of each vehicle. The Defender 110 is built for off-road use first, so there’s much more emphasis on capability than outright power. This is helped by a twin-speed high/low-range transfer box and all-terrain chassis tuning. The Defender 110 transitions seamlessly from commuting to exploring trails or camping anytime you want.
The Range Rover Sport comes with plenty of off-road equipment too, like AWD, Dynamic Air Suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, and Terrain Response 2. But it’s important to note that these features are also well suited to use on the road, and the Range Rover Sport is made primarily for on-road use. This is why the Range Rover Sport SV comes equipped with a 626-horsepower V8 engine, and all-wheel steering is offered as an option. This kind of on-road performance doesn’t mean the Sport isn’t also vastly superior to SUVs from competing brands when it comes to dirt; it’s just not all that it does.

The Defender 110 and Range Rover Sport are very close in size. The 110 has a 118.1-inch wheelbase, while the Sport rides on a 119-inch wheelbase. As we discussed, the cargo space behind the 2nd row of seats is nearly the same as well. But fold the second row of seats down, and the 110 has 78.8 cubic feet of cargo space, while the Sport only expands to 65.9 cubic feet. The difference comes from the highly functional nature of the Defender 110; an adventure vehicle needs to be one that you can use to carry cargo, sometimes a lot of cargo. That’s not to say it isn’t luxurious, though; the Defender 110 comes with heated 12-way power-adjustable front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a 400-watt Meridian™ sound system. The seats are upholstered in an easily washable material known as Resist, although Windsor leather is available.
The Range Rover Sport leans much more into the luxury side of things. Windsor leather is standard; the front seats are 20-way adjustable and ventilated as well as heated, and an upgraded 18-speaker Meridian™ 3D Surround Sound system is available. The Range Rover Sport is also available with more paint colors, more wheel designs, and more interior finishes. There is also the Range Rover Sport SV, which we’ve already mentioned for its upgraded and impressive performance. But the SV interior is also upgraded, with unique seats, carpet mats, air purification, and a performance heated leather steering wheel.
