2026 Defender 110 vs. Lexus GX Comparison with Price, Specs, & Photos

Defender 110 VS Lexus GX - Land Rover South Hills

Few vehicles reach the kind of iconic status that the Defender 110 enjoys, something that was achieved through decades of refinement to make the Defender as capable off-road as it is comfortable. It makes the Defender difficult to compete with, and most luxury SUVs stick to on-road use. But Lexus does make one model aimed squarely at the Defender 110, the GX. With Lexus being able to call on parent company Toyota’s truck-building experience, the GX is a serious attempt to compete, but how does it actually compare? We’ll have to take a closer look.

The Defender 110 starts off wth a higher price tag, but it becomes pretty obvious why right away. The Defender comes with more horsepower, as well as the option of even more horsepower in the form of a supercharged V8. There is no V8 for the GX, as there is no optional drivetrain at all. The front suspension is another mechanical advantage for the Defender, with the short and long arm suspension allowing for greater wheel articulation and suspension travel than the double wishbone suspension on the GX, and those are not qualities to be taken lightly in an off-roader. And since quite a lot of off-road adventures require additional cargo, it’s good to know that you have space for quite a bit more of it in the Defender 110.

The Defender 110 comes better equipped than the GX, which isn’t a huge surprise, given the price difference, even if it is a little surprising that Lexus didn’t throw in some basic luxury features like a heated steering wheel. The difference in equipment is compounded by how few à la carte options there are for the GX, with nearly any equipment changes requiring you to move up to a higher trim, even for something as simple as rain-sensing wipers. Wheel designs are a good example of this. Each trim of the GX is available with just one set of wheels, so if you don’t like the way they look, you have to either change trims or just live with it. The Defender 110 offers nine designs just for the X-Dynamic SE trim. The Defender also gets a boost in off-road ability from standard equipment like an underbody camera and fog lights. These features aren’t standard on the GX; in fact, they aren’t available on the GX at all.

Land Rover Defender 110

Winner – Defender 110

The Defender 110 is a luxury SUV, but also one that takes off-roading seriously in a way that none of its competitors ever manage to quite get right. The GX makes more of an effort than most, but there’s a reason why the GX isn’t an icon. The Defender is the clear segment leader, and whatever kind of off-road adventure you’re looking for, it’s the best way to get where you’re going. And the best way to get your Defender 110 is with Land Rover South Hills.
